Studies in the hasty 1960’s showed that Margaret River had some very particular qualities. On the advice of eminent agronomist Dr John Gladstones, Dr Kevin and Diana Cullen were involved in the first planting of a trial acre of vines at Wilyabrup in 1966. While Kevin Cullen worked as a doctor to support the business, Diana Cullen supervised and managed the winery and become Chief Winemaker in 1981. In 1983 she was joined by daughter Tanya, who was later appointed as Chief Winemaker in 1989 and Managing Director from 199. Committed to bio dynamic viticulture, Cullen Wines has evolved into an iconic winery focused on quality, integrity and sustainability at all levels of the business. In the eighty years that Diana graced the world, she pioneered and helped to establish the Margaret River wine industry, played a significant role in the conservation and ecology of the Margaret River region, was a dedicated wife and mother of six and, along with husband Kevin, contributed greatly to medical research in Western Australia. Tanya Cullen Tanya Cullen has been occupied on the farm maximum of her life and has been wine making at her family’s Wilyabrup estate since 1983. Margaret River artist, Ashley Jones, created the distinctive oak acorn and leaf symbol calm seen today on all Cullen labels. He became a Member of the Order of Australia for his contribution to medicine and viticulture. Extensions to the istration and Restaurant building were completed. Diana awarded the Jack Mann trophy for her contribution to the Western Australian Wine Industry. With the temporary of Diana Madeline Cullen in 2003, the decision was made to rename the 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot to the Diana Madeline Cabernet Sauvignon in her honor, and from 2005 the label was changed simply to Diana Madeline and has been made every year since this time. The Chardonnay became known from 2006 as the Kevin John’ named behind the family patriarch. Tanya Cullen was awarded the UK Drinks Magazine Woman of The Year for her dedication and commitment to the industry, and showing that you can have a prosperous business whilst looking behind the environment. At the very top of the quality and meticulous tree you might drink wine from the bio dynamically certified vineyards of Cullen from Margaret River Tim White. Tanya has judged at wine shows in every major city in Australia. While Kevin was practicing in Busselton, he and Di were living on their property in Wilyabrup. Following a report from Dr John Gladstones outlining the potential of Margaret River as a quality wine region, Kevin and Di were involved in the beginning planting in Wilyabrup in 1966, and established the Cullen vineyard in 1971. Kevin always had a vast love of Cabernet Sauvignon and always referred to its need to have a steely backbone, which he insisted should be a characteristic of the wine made from this variety. Despite his medical duties, he tranquil managed to make the 1975 Cabernet Sauvignon for Cullen Wines. Cullen Wines have decided to recognize Kevin’s pioneering contribution to the elevation of its Chardonnay to prime status by naming this wine the Kevin John and thereby form a formidable twin with the Diana Madeline, Cabernet Sauvignon unite named in dignify of his wife. Di was involved in the first trial vines in Wilyabrup in the Margaret River region in 1966, and established the Cullen Vineyard in 1971. Di made history in 1982 beings the first woman to prevail a trophy in the Perth Royal Reveal and continued to be chief winemaker until 1989 when daughter Tanya took over. In this time she was awarded medals and trophies, and established a tradition of excellence at Cullen Wines.
